Parallel tracks

On straight track, track centers can usually be closer than on curves. Curves create car-end and body overhang, so adjacent tracks need additional separation. The tighter the curve and the longer the cars, the more clearance you should test.

Structure clearance

Check tunnels, bridge portals, platforms, loading docks, signal masts, switch stands and scenery with your tallest, widest and longest equipment. Remember handrails, mirrors and roof details can extend beyond the main body.

Testing method

1. Place your longest car on the inside curve.
2. Place your longest car on the adjacent outside curve.
3. Move both slowly past each other through the point of maximum overhang.
4. Add a safety margin before fixing track permanently.

Hidden track

Hidden track should be more forgiving than visible track, not less. Use broader curves where possible, generous clearance, reliable turnouts and easy access panels.
