What staging represents
A staging track is not usually a destination within the modeled scene. It represents distant cities, connecting railroads or off-layout territory where trains originate or disappear.
Types
Stub staging is space-efficient but may require backing movements. Double-ended staging supports through trains. Fiddle yards allow hands-on rearrangement. Cassettes can physically move a train or cars off-layout.
Capacity
Plan staging by complete train length, not just number of tracks. A track too short for your normal train will create constant operating friction.
Access
Hidden staging should have lighting, generous vertical clearance and direct access. Complex turnouts in inaccessible locations are an invitation to future frustration.
